After scrapping my car, how do I get my tax back?

A scrap car removal service removes unwanted vehicles for recycling. The registration of the vehicle must be surrendered to the recycler in order to cancel the vehicle tax.

Direct Debits for tax will be automatically cancelled by the DVLA, and any months remaining on the tax will be refunded. A check will be issued and made out to the registered keeper of the vehicle.

If you own the vehicle but are not the registered keeper, you can write or contact the DVLA with proof of your ownership, such as a bill of sale.

Please include your name, address, and registration number. Additionally, be sure to mention that you want a tax refund sent to your address.
